WiSe 18/19: MÜ-Interfacing Linguistics and Literature: The Modernists and Language
Andreas Mahler
Comments
The tutorial, which is an accompaniment to the seminar ‘Minor Modernists’, will look into the linguistic aspects of modernism by way of describing it as a language project that does not so much use language in order to do something else with it (such as, e.g., build up the illusion of a ‘world’) but, rather, that focuses on the linguistic and textual material as the medial foundation of our ‘being’ in the world, which is apt to endow us with the illusion of, at least temporarily, ‘having ourselves’, too. The theoretical readings will, among others, include authors such as Roman Jakobson, Helmuth Plessner, and Wolfgang Iser. close
