This seminar provides an introduction to the empirical analysis of linguistic structures and functions at different levels of linguistic analysis, with particular emphasis on the system of word classes in English. Methodologically, the seminar will focus on corpus linguistics and related observational methods. It is complemented by a lecture course (Levels of Linguistic Analysis I: Structures and Functions) that focusses on the theoretical and psycho-linguistic background.
