WiSe 18/19: GK-Medieval English Literatures: Medieval English Literature and the Gender Issue

The series of lectures aims at discussing gender-related actions, attitudes, and concepts of morality in selected Middle English texts. We will consider texts from a wide variety of genres, such as lyrics, fabliaux, exempla, debate poems, plays, and romances, and will relate them to medieval and modern literary criticism. Whenever relevant, social, political and art history will be touched upon as well.
Language of instruction: English. Required language level: C1-C2.
A reader of the relevant primary texts will be made available to students at the beginning of the semester.
