WiSe 18/19: PS-Introduction to Linguistics
Martin Konvicka
Comments
The aim of this introductory course is to familiarise you with the essential linguistic terms, concepts and methods. Our primary object of investigation is going to be English, but other familiar languages may occasionally be referred to as well. In the course of the semester, we will investigate language on the different levels of analysis (phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics) and you will learn to analyse language from semiotic as well as sociolinguistic perspectives. After successfully finishing this course, you will be equipped with the linguistic terminology and concepts necessary to pursue more advanced linguistic research questions.
Students who, for any reason, cannot attend the first class are kindly asked to contact me in advance.
