MODEL EUROPEAN UNION
THE EU AT 27 – QUO VADIS, EU?
On 23 June 2016, the EU-Referendum in the United Kingdom turned out in favour of leaving the European Union. The unprecedented outcome has led the President of the EU-Commission Juncker to announce a “reflection process”on the future of Europe. At the Sibiu Summit in Romania, to be held in May 2019 – shortly before elections to the European Parliament – the results are to be presented and the EU Leaders are expected to set new priorities and strategies for the European Union with its then-27 Member States.
We invite you to represent one of the Member States of the European Union, the President of the European Council or the President of the Commission and take part in a meeting of the European Council to deal with these and other questions relating to the future of the European Union. We especially invite European students to represent their home countries since we envision this meeting to be much more than "just" a simulation.
Students from all faculties may apply for participation. For your preparation, we will provide for a comprehensive Background Guide with information on the European Union as well as negotiation techniques and the Rules of Procedure. There will be four mandatory preparatory meetings on 9 November (12-14 h), 23 November (tba), 14 December (12-14 h) and 21 January 2019 (16-18 h), where the Delegations will meet and participants are introduced to the topic, research methods and the Rules of Procedure. Participants are asked to prepare Position Papers concerning their Delegations’ positions in the conference. Please note that conference language will be English. It will be possible to get credits (5 ECTS-credits) for the seminar (Schlüsselqualifikations-Schein, FB Rechtswissenschaft).
Members of the European Council: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden; as well as the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission.
Applications are to be sent until 31 October 2018 to Peggy Wittke (via email only).
Your application should include:
- Personal Details (Short CV, Name, Address, Phone, Email, Martikelnumber)
- Field of studies and number of semesters
- 3 preferences (EU-Members, European Council President or EC-President)
- Short letter of motivation
