The aim of the course is to cover the most important topics of enviornmental history and discuss them using examples from the Eastern Mediterranean. These include: - anthropogenic landscape change - climate change and human history - ecological relations and social structure - disease and society - migrations and the enviornment - environmental history of the city - the Anthropocene debate The colloquium will consist of lectures alternating with discussion sessions based on readings that will be obligatory for all course participants. Course readings will be selected depending on the interests of the participants. Final grade will be based on course participation and a brief essay/presentation (to be agreed) done in groups or individually. close
