Nasima Selim
Kommentar
This BA seminar introduces undergraduate students to ethnographic works related to South Asia. Students will read/analyze chapters from ethnographic monographs, articles, and critically view films to familiarize themselves with the region. The course begins with a brief discussion of South Asian history and introduction to post-colonial theories. The ethnographic materials are organized around the following themes: Body, health and social suffering; religion and the politics of becoming; border relations and ecological entanglements; diasporic and cyber-subjectivity. Regional foci include three nation-states (Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan) and the diasporic spaces. Students are expected to come to class having read the assigned texts. Monthly screening of films will introduce the audio-visual cultures in/from the region. In addition, students will conduct short field-visit assignment. Schließen
