The main goal of this colloquium is to provide a safe space for students to mutually present and constructively discuss their ongoing master’s theses. The Global History Master Colloquium offers students an opportunity to reflect on the process and organization of academic research more generally and to discuss the nuts-and-bolts of writing their master’s thesis more specifically. Depending on students’ interests and the number of participants the course can cover topics such as developing a research question, conducting archival research, structuring material, as well as working plans, time management, etc. Regardless of which stage of the writing process students may find themselves in, each participant will be expected to share and discuss a research proposal for her or his MA thesis with the other participants.
Course Requirements:
In order to successfully complete the course, you must meet the following requirements: A. Regular and active participation; B. write a provisional title and an abstract for your MA thesis (300 words); C. write a research proposal for your MA thesis (7-15 pages, 12 pt, 1.5-spaced) for discussion in class; D. deliver a spoken comment on another participants’ research proposal.
