WiSe 19/20: Power and Resistance in Global Economic Governance
Lukas Hakelberg
Kommentar
The seminar covers the sources, applications and reactions to power in global economic governance. Its first part deals with the basic concepts of structural, instrumental and discursive power. The second part explains how governments, international organizations and interest groups become powerful and how they use their power to shape rules and standards in areas such as financial market regulation, international taxation, and trade. The third part covers different forms of resistance to power. It introduces the concepts of mock compliance, foot-dragging and disruption and puts power in temporal perspective. Does the indiscriminate use of power at time t undermine an actor's dominant position at time t+1? What causes hegemonic decline and how do transitions of power play out? Schließen
