WiSe 19/20: Game of Thrones and Historical Research
Thomas Ertl
Kommentar
Game of Thrones is considered the most successful television series of all time and is set in a fictional world that resembles the European Middle Ages. The seminar will discuss which medieval picture is painted in GoT. We will take this question as an opportunity to examine individual topics in more detail. The focus will be on topics such as clothing, housing conditions, social and political hierarchies, religion and legends, warfare and others. Our joint examination of these themes will finally lead to the question of what significance films like GoT have for modern ideas of the Middle Ages.
