WiSe 19/20: Searching for orientation and identification in the World Risk Society: Pedagogical prospects (German: Die Suche nach Orientierung und Identifikation in der Risikogesellschaft: Pädagogische Zugänge)

The seminar will use English texts, partly complemented with German texts. We will negotiate the course language together in the first session, regarding the composition of participants.
The basis of the seminar is Ulrich Becks diagnosis of the present age concerning the “world risk society” (1986, 1990). Special focus is put on the challenges which young people are facing while growing up in it. How is the individual orientating and constructing a personal identity in a risk society? The second half of the seminar focuses on certain educational and developmental psychological models and approaches which try to support young peoples (and adults) search for orientation and identity. Simultaneously, students form groups and begin to develop smaller interventional approaches related to praxis and with regard to education in a risk society.
This will be a course including both work with texts and rather interactive formats, including presentations, small podium discussions and analyses of videos/ TED talks. close
