WiSe 19/20: Tax and Transfer Systems in the U.S.
Christian Lammert
Comments
This course will focus on the development of income and wealth inequality in the United States. We will take a closer look at the ways the US government tries to redistribute income and wealth via the tax and transfer system and how the United States differ from other welfare regimes in this regard. Furthermore, we will discuss how inequality relates to political and social justice, and how economic and political inequality related to each other. We will explore competing explanations for the growth of inequality, and competing understandings of the consequences for politics and policy making. close
