Maimonides’ “Guide of the Perplexed” is one of the central texts of Jewish exegesis and philosophy and a classic of intellectual history in general. The broad impact of the text and the sheer amount of modern secondary literature often lead to only parts of the text being read and discussed. In this reading course we will try to read Maimonides’ “Guide of the Undecided” as a whole. Our reading will be based on modern translations; participants can read the Arabic original and (medieval / modern) Hebrew translations in parallel and we will include them in our discussion. close
