WiSe 19/20: Classical Theories in American Sociology
Harald Wenzel
Comments
In this course we will reconstruct a larger part of theoretical thinking in American sociology. That will include the historical and social contextualization of this thought – particularly for the phase of “Progressivism”, the age of social reforms at the beginning of the 20th century. Sociology is a very young discipline: In the U.S. this phase marks the beginning of sociology as a discipline. The course will not focus only on “sociological” theory in the strict sense but tries to create a broader understanding of theory in covering approaches that have found interdisciplinary use. close
