WiSe 19/20: Ethics and Politics of Climate Change
Jacob Blumenfeld
Comments
It’s worse, much worse than you think. Climate change is the biggest threat to the survival of our species, and yet we have collectively failed so far to address it properly. Why is that? In this seminar, we will discuss the ways in which climate change challenges our basic moral notions like responsibility, blame, and justice, as well as upsets fundamental political categories like states, markets, and property. What are our obligations to future generations? Are individuals to blame for global warming? How can we know so much, and yet do so little? We will critically interrogate concepts like nature, energy, consumption, and sustainability in order to make sense of our current predicament. Readings and discussion in English. close
