Al-Hallaj (d. 922) is one of the most distinguished representatives of early sufism. His alleged offence against religious norms in his sermons, as well as political accusations, resulted in a public trial, which ended with his execution. In the seminar some of his poems and sections of his prose will be analysed, as also historical and legendary reports, in order to achieve a conception of his controversial personality and his mystical teaching. close
