Epidemiological terminology will be repeated (prevalence, incidence, epidemic, endemic, …), principal aspects of association and causality explained, types of observational studies presented (cross-sectional, case-control and cohort studies), the use of random sampling techniques discussed, the validation and analysis of the performance of diagnostic tests explained (sensitivity, specificity, predictive values), basic aspects of modelling discussed and the spatio-temporal epidemiology of infectious diseases analysed. We will work in an interactive manner using examples of viral, bacterial and parasitic diseases as well as prion diseases with a minimum of statistics and maths. close
