The module Fundamentals of Computer Engineering forms the basis for understanding the functioning of real computer systems.
Starting from logic, this module primarily covers the subject areas of switching networks and switching mechanisms, logic minimization, gates, flip-flops, memory, automatic machines and simple hardware design.
Furthermore, basic knowledge of DC and AC networks, semiconductors, transistors, CMOS, operational amplifiers, A/D and D/A converters is taught, as far as it is necessary for computer science.
In the corresponding practical course, the knowledge gained in the lecture and in the module Computer Architecture, Operating and Communication Systems are deepened with numerous practical experiments.
Based on a simple hardware platform with processor and various interfaces, the participants will learn how to program elementary drivers, extend operating system routines and control the interfaces.
Subsequently, the systems should be networked and be able to interact with their environment.
