- Discrete and continuous random variables and their distributions, important examples
- Expected value, (co-)variance, correlation
- Conditional probability, independence
- Weak law of large numbers
- Central limit theorem
- Data analysis and descriptive statistics: histograms; empirical distribution; characteristics of sample distributions; examples of misleading descriptive statistics; linear regression
- Elementary terms and techniques of testing and estimating: maximum likelihood principle; confidence interval; hypothesis testing; first and second type errors
