WiSe 19/20: S-Lit. Stud.: Periods-Genres-Concepts: Romantic Poetry
Stephan Laqué
Comments
The Romantic period is often taken to start with the French Revolution of 1789 and to end with the Reform Act of 1832 – or to stretch from the Enlightenment to industrialized Modernity – or to be sandwiched between Classicism and Victorianism. But the age is rich in continuities which link it both to its past and to developments that were to follow up to the present day. This semnar will address the poetological and philosophical background of the age as well as its sociocultural and histocrical context. The anthology to purchase for this seminar is either Duncan Wu (ed.), Romantic Poetry, Oxford, 2002 or The Norton Anthology of English Literature. close
