This online seminar, which will be held in English, is intended to give a broad, positive and optimistic perspective on how to cope with stress, crises and trauma, especially from a social work´s and positive psychology’s perspective. This is a very relevant topic to nowadays COVID-19 reality, but also relevant to each one of us during our life, and specifically to people who consume welfare services. We will discuss the different characteristics of crises, but more importantly we will learn various professional ways that are common among social workers and psychologists in Israel to cope with stressful life events.
Objectives:
  • Familiarity with the concepts of crises and traumatic events and with positive and optimistic approaches, skills and methods of intervention.
  • Learning about trauma and stress from the reality and professional experience and research in Israel.
structure:
  • First online meeting (whole group) where I will introduce the course and we will get to know each other.
  • Afterwards there will be online recorded lectures that the students will need to watch, together with reading the relevant paper or watching a video (see in the detailed table below).
  • After every 2-3 recorded lectures there will be an online meeting with the whole group where you could ask questions about the lessons so far and we could have a discussion.
  • Also, I will be happy if some students could present a short case study relevant to what we have learned from their practical experience or any other experience (will be explained in the first Online meeting).
Requirements for the “Aktive Teilnahme”:
  • Attendance to the online meetings and taking an active part in the discussion.
  • Reading the articles and watching the videos and the Online aufgezeichnete Vorlesungen (all articles and video links will be available to the students).
  • Submitting a concluding paper at the end of the course or presenting a case study (see details below).
Concluding paper/case presentation:
Each student can choose if she prefers to write a concluding paper or to do a case presentation in one of the online Gesamtgruppe to get the “Aktive Teilnahme”.
Case study (presentation): Choose a case study of a person who went through a crisis of any kind (loss, trauma, or any other). This could be someone you worked with as a client or a person whom you know from your life, or you can also use your imagination and describe a fictive person. Describe the crisis he/her went through and how the situation relate to one of the topics we learned (around 10-15 minutes).
Case study (written): Choose one topic from the seminar and one paper from the syllabus. Choose a case study of a person who went through a crisis of any kind (loss, trauma, or any other). This could be someone you worked with as a client or a person whom you know from your life, or you can also use your imagination and describe a fictive person. Describe the crisis he/her went through and how the situation relate to the topic and paper you chose (around 3 pages).
Hausarbeit/Paper (optional):
It is possible to write a Hausarbeit/paper in the seminar and get a grade. You are required to formulate a research question at the beginning of the seminar which you will examine and answer based on scientific literature and research. You will have space here to find a question and topic that interests you, as long as it is somehow connected to the seminar and orientated close to the papers of the seminar. Please discuss the topic you choose with the lecturer before you start working on the Hausarbeit/paper. Schließen
