WiSe 20/21: Integration through Education. A European Perspective
Maria Keil
Kommentar
Education is the driving force of social mobility in modern western societies. How so? Educational systems as well as higher education systems have undergone an expansion in many western countries in the last decades. But what does that mean for societal stratification and individual life chances? Who profits from education the most and for whom do inequalities persist? Looking at different European countries we will address these questions by studying empirical research that focusses on the expansion in education and higher education and the linkage between educational, social, gender and ethnic inequalities. This comparative perspective will be complemented by looking at educational developments over time to draw conclusions about the educational effects on integration. For a deeper understanding of the matter it is suggested to also attend the course “Educational Theories: Introduction to the Sociology of Education” in module 2. Schließen
