Scope of the Course:

6 online units, each online unit will be dealt with for 2 weeks

weekly processing and practice time: approximately 2 hours of 60 minutes

Course Content:

  • Methods of alternative dispute resolution
  • Guiding principles of mediation
  • Role of the mediator
  • Stages of the mediation process
  • Questioning techniques
  • Communication tools
  • Negotiation strategies
  • Psychological factors in conflict situations
  • Interest-based dispute settlement / win-win solution

Learning Objectives:

The students are able to place mediation in the range of alternative dispute resolution methods and to guide the parties through a mediation process. They are aware of the escalating effect of certain communication methods and are able to translate offending language into nonviolent language. They know about the importance of underlying interests for a sustainable and mutually beneficial solution. They are skilled in detecting these interests from the parties’ demands and in making them visible through appropriate questioning and communication techniques.

Teaching Methodology:

This is an asynchronous but interactive online course on the Blackboard learning platform with self-study units, comprehension tests, practical exercises, and role plays.

Technical Requirements:

Participants will need a laptop or PC with a camera and a good microphone for the role plays. Schließen
