WiSe 20/21: Regulation of intimacy and reproduction in comparative perspective
Hannah Zagel
Kommentar
The question how states regulate intimacy and sexuality has gained new prominence with the far-reaching shifts in people’s reproductive lives over the past few decades. Major trends are sexual liberalization, changes in family formation dynamics and the role of family planning technology. Technological developments in obstetric care and reproductive medicine open new pathways in family planning and control over reproduction. States regulate access to these technologies and thus define rights and barriers to reproduction. This seminar features different theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches to analyzing the regulation of reproduction with a focus on comparing between countries. The bulk of the class is organized as asynchronous online seminar with weekly tasks, group work and written feedback. We will meet for synchronous session approximately 3 times over the course of the semester.
