This seminar discusses research designs in social science and especially political science. Discussions include Variants of concept formation, operationalization and measurement, conceptions of causality and explanation, the role of theories in the research process and approaches to case selection In addition, the students gain an impression of the main forms of empirical research in the social sciences: experiments, research facilities with large numbers of cases, comparative case studies, individual case studies and mixed-method designs. close
