In this seminar, we will probe the political economy of racialized mass incarceration in the US. The main focus will be on the political, social and economic transformations which provided the conditions of possibility for the expansion of racialized mass incarceration from the 1980s. But we will also examine how racialized mass incarceration has shaped and continues to shape social, political and economic life in the US. The entire seminar will be taught remotely via Webex but will also include a number of student-led research projects. close
