The seminar offers an introduction to solidarity economy and deals with the question of what prospects are emerging for it in Latin America. The course first focuses on the central characteristics of Solidarity Economy and then examines how it is built from the grassroots. In this context, we use examples to discuss the building of the Solidarity Economy through: a) social movements, b) cooperatives and socially responsible businesses, c) networking and community organizing, d) public policy and e) daily practice. In a second step, we address the future of solidarity economy and discuss its challenges and opportunities, given the ongoing economic and health crisis. close
