WiSe 20/21: Introduction to Qualitative Methods

Antje Kahl

Comments

The course is designed to introduce students to the theory and practice of qualitative research methods in sociology. The seminar addresses issues of research design, data collection and analysis in relation to a variety of qualitative research methods. Since texts are one of the main data source in qualitative research, we will focus on interviewing, discourse analysis and document analysis. We will also consider the issues of ethics in qualitative research as well as quality criteria of qualitative research. Based on the idea that doing is one of the best means of learning, this course aims to be interactive. It requires ‘hands-on’ participation in a series of practical exercises throughout the term and experiential learning through practical application of the various research strategies introduced. close
