In this lecture, we are going to focus on political, social and economic processes, which characterised a transition between Roman Period and the Early Middle Age (4-9th c. AD). We convey the historical background and present selected sites, which allow us to discuss current research results about these centuries. These show that the using of the term “Dark Ages” cannot accepted on the base of lacking of sources or of evaluation of this Period. In the lecture, we are going to discuss linked aspects from the side of research history as well as new approaches. close
