This seminar explores basic elements for a qualified and critical anthropological examination of religion and spirituality. While the focus is initially on the development of 'classic' anthropological theories, concepts and topics (e.g. cosmologies, symbol interpretation, ritual theory, witchcraft, shamanism), their scope is determined by dealing with newer socially relevant topics of the anthropology of religion (e.g. religion and Colonialism, (post)secularism, material religion, urban religion, queer religion, fundamentalism, as well as religion and globalization/migration). close
