Comments
Language, religion, and ethnicity are the main components that determine the foundation and
formation of a country (nation-state). These criteria have undergone many changes and
transformations in each region over the past centuries and resulted in the emergence of the
existing countries. Turkey, for example, is a country which has gone through a complex
process of changes to reach its current nation-state. However, there are still many conflicts
and struggles in the region regarding the transitions of the mentioned factors. In this course,
we attempt to provide an overview of the changes these three criteria have faced that has
caused Byzantine Asia minor to change into the present Turkey.
