Comments

This class is designed to be taken in conjunction with the lecture “Introduction to Literary Studies: Basic Questions, Concepts, and Methods.” In the seminar, students will apply the knowledge they gain in the lecture and develop their skills by engaging with a selection of poetic, narrative, and dramatic texts. In addition, students will read a number of critical texts which introduce them to some of the central theoretical frameworks in literary studies. Overall, the seminar thus aims to give students the ability to understand and contextualise a historically and generically diverse range of texts and to discuss and write about them in structured ways. Finally, the class offers a first introduction to academic writing and research techniques.

The class will be conducted in English. Most of the readings as well as a full list of required texts will be made available via Blackboard.

To complete the module and receive the full credits students will have to attend regularly, meet the requirements for active participation (based on assignments) in the seminar, and pass the final exam (90 minutes) at the end of the term (based on both the lecture and the seminar).

Please note that the number of participants per class is limited. There are a number of parallel courses to choose from (same materials). Students must sign up via Campus Management in order to be assigned a place. Places will be assigned by the system on the basis of first and second choice. Before the first session, make sure you check which seminar you can participate in.

This course will be taught onlinevia WebEx.

In order to participate in this online class you will need a computer (or similar device with sufficient screen size), a stable internet connection, a working microphone/headset, and, ideally a camera. Please make sure you are enrolled for the accompanying Blackboard site as well. Normally, courses for which you enroll via Campus Management will be added to your Blackboard account automatically. Please check.

On Blackboard you will find all necessary information such as WebEx-Login codes etc. The Blackboard site will be made available shortly before the start of the seminar.
