The lecture will address issues of language change from a sociolinguistic perspective and with a focus on the social developments that shaped the English language throughout its history. We will explore the reasons for language change, the ways to investigate it and particularly its social relevance for language users. The lecture will be offered in a blended format, with regular sessions on campus and occasional asynchronous online sessions.
