Kommentar
As conceptualized by the Brazilian thinker Lélia Gonzalez, “Améfrica Ladina” refers to an Afro-Latin-America, that is, to comprehend Latin America within its deep Black Atlantic legacy. Within this geopolitical framework, the course will, first, closely read the categories of colonialism, whiteness, racial capitalism and eurocentrism, perceived as key concepts for critically reflecting not only about Latin America but also the globalized modern world system. By connecting anti-colonial contributions to the contemporary anti-racist and feminist struggles, we will then examine questions of violence, identity, (r)existence and radical transformation. The course assembles various styles and accounts of knowledge production including poetry, historiography, film and scholarly pieces produced by Lélia Gonzalez, Maria Beatriz Nascimento, Frantz Fanon, Aimé Césaire, Abdias do Nascimento and others.
