Diese Lehrveranstaltung findet online statt, der angegebene Raum (JK 29/118) steht für diese Veranstaltung dennoch zur Verfügung. In diesem Raum haben Studierende vor Ort die Möglichkeit, an der digital stattfindenden Veranstaltung teilzunehmen, unter der Voraussetzung, dass jede/r ein Smartphone, Tablet oder Laptop mit Kopfhörer mitbringt, über das sie/er sich in die Veranstaltung einloggen und teilnehmen kann.
Sie müssen unbedingt über den Barcode (an der Seminartür) Ihre Anwesenheit im Raum dokumentieren. Schließen

This course will focus on two closely related topics:
(1) Laws of nature. What are laws of nature? Are they mere regularities across space and time, or does lawhood require more? What is the proper role of laws in scientific practice? Are laws best thought of as concise statements that convey large quantities of information, as tools for predicting future events, or as deeper explanations of why the universe is the way it is?
(2) Causation. What is it for one event to cause another? Can we define causation using laws of nature, counterfactuals, or probabilities? Is causation an “objective” relation that belongs in the natural sciences? Or is it essentially tied to judgments of responsibility and other normative matters?
