Zusätzl. Angaben / Voraussetzungen

Requirements: participants will - regularly discuss their translations of rather short Arabic texts (1-3 pages) in groups - once in the plenary present an Arabic sociological work and discuss their translation of a short section thereof Schließen

Kommentar

This course accompanies the seminar of the module “Politik und Gesellschaft” (MA Islamwissenschaft). In the seminar we will familiarize ourselves with the history and characteristics of sociology in Arab countries mainly via English secondary literature. In turn, in this course, we will exclusively work with Arabic sources. These mostly consist of primary and secondary literature authored by Arab sociologists, but we will also include an Arabic video lecture and will likely have a live lecture and discussion with an Arab sociologist in our class. This course is decidedly an opportunity to practice Arabic research skills in a secure setting, without expecting proficiency therein. Still, the completion of Arabic IV or the proof of equivalent skills is a prerequisite for attending the course. Schließen
