WiSe 21/22: Contestation of and in contemporary political orders
Michael Zürn
Kommentar
Current political orders seem to be under high pressure. Social movements all around the world mobilise to contest the social and political status quo. At the same time, political orders themselves are increasingly put to the test. The Liberal International Order is contested by rising powers, transnational movements and nationalist forces in the West. Liberal democracies are challenged by authoritarian populist parties. But also, authoritarian systems like Belarus and Russia are contested from within. In this seminar, we aim to analyse the concept of contestation, the normative goals, strategies and emotions used by different contestants worldwide and the (potential) causes of the rise of contestations of and in contemporary political orders.
