Comments

The course is intended to combine an introduction to security policy with a thematic deepening on the topic of "artificial intelligence" and the military. Military and security policy deals with many contents of a nationally or in an alliance organised defence against danger. The classic state monopoly of force behind this almost naturally leads to controversies in domestic and foreign policy about the expenditure, goals and use of state-organised force. This policy manifested itself most conspicuously in questions of the military. Until 1990, security was organised in the bipolar confrontation in the shadow of the mutual nuclear deterrence of the superpowers and their alliances. Since then, the understanding of security has been "broadened" and has now given way to a "comprehensive concept of security" in many perspectives of society, politics, economy, environment, and culture. The boundaries of external and internal security disappeared, and threats became more multi-layered. The weaknesses and strengths of the internet as well as perspective dangers of a weak or strong artificial intelligence have become dominant topics. In the process, the dangers suspected in the technology, some of which are still unknown, are combined with a well-known threat scenario of political global competition. In the course and an accompanying day excursion, in-depth knowledge of security policy problems on individual topics will be gained. close
