Seminar
WiSe 21/22: Migration and Postsocialist Change
Julia Glathe
Comments
This seminar links the analysis of migration phenomena to post-socialist theory and, through this, to the analysis of social change. It offers a broad overview of migration and migration policy in Eastern Europe and discusses these phenomena in the context of the post-socialist transformation. In the first part of the seminar, sociological and anthropological theories of social change are discussed, which can be subsumed under the term “postsocialist theory”, which has developed as a critical intervention against transition and modernization paradigms. In the second part, we look at various studies of migration research and discuss them against the background of post-socialist theory. We will examine which social aspects of transformation influence migration processes and how migration itself influences social change. close
