Comments
The course is based on the growing body of international political economy (IPE) scholarship which
analyses the international investment regime. It will provide an introduction to the evolution of the rules on investment in the 21st century and its relation to ideas underlying international trade and investment, with perspectives from the Global South. The different frameworks at national, bilateral and multilateral levels, key scholarly debates in the field, as well as the various national and transnational actors which play a prominent role in the international investment landscape will be discussed. Finally, it will engage with debates on the impacts of these frameworks, for instance, the relevance of investment agreements for human rights and development.
