Islam Dayeh

Additional information / Pre-requisites

Knowledge of Arabic is required.

Comments

Ibn Taymiyya (d. 728/1328) is one of the most influential and controversial Muslim scholars of the premodern period, whose works have had a significant impact on modern thought. Although he did not compose a conventional exegetical work on the Qur’an, he wrote extensively on the Qur’an and gave critical assessments of the exegetical tradition. In this course, we will engage in a close reading of passages from his influential work: Introduction to the Foundations of Qur’anic Exegesis (Muqaddima fi usul al-tafsir). close
