WiSe 22/23: HS-Literary and Cultural Theories: Postmodern Fiction
Stephan Laqué
Kommentar
The postmodern is a famously contested concept. Is it a period? a quality? or merely a fashionable buzzword of questionable value? This curse will discuss questions from postmodern theory (referentiality, reflexivity, identity, authority, subjectivity) and consider their pertinence to a selection of novels commonly considered to be postmodern. Please purchase the following four novels: Ian McEwan, The Cement Garden; Julian Barnes, Flaubert’s Parrot; Martin Amis, Money; Angela Carter, Nights at the Circus. Please read McEwan’s The Cement Garden for week two of the semester.
