Zusätzl. Angaben / Voraussetzungen
This course is divided in two parts. The first (sessions 1-4) will introduce students to key concepts, theories and perspectives in the broad field of gender and diversity studies, including masculinities theories, queer theories, intersectionality and postcolonialism. Having acquired the necessary analytical tools, in part 2 (sessions 5-8), students will experiment with four topical and controversial themes in contemporary societies: (1) gender and migration; (2) gender balance & diversity in decision-making; (3) gender and religion; (4) gender and language. In relation to each of them, students will be encouraged to test new concepts, theories and perspectives acquired in part 1 to unpack complex and multifaceted questions and to advance possible solutions. Additionally, there is an awareness training consisting of online sessions on 4./5.11. and 18./19.11. plus asynchronous elements (assignments to be handed in). For the awareness training the group will be divided into two parts. All participants take part in one Fri/Sat session plus asynchronous elements. Course language: English. Schließen
Kommentar
The ultimate aim of this course is not only to make students familiar with existing theoretical and practical debates on gender and diversity in contemporary societies, but especially to motivate and empower them to ‘think outside the box’, to become aware and to challenge their own assumptions and values, and to develop creativity and see things in (a) new, unconventional light(s).
