WiSe 22/23: S-Literatures of Medieval Britain: Re-Writing Chaucer
Wolfram Keller
Kommentar
This seminar will be devoted to the question as to how fifteenth- and sixteenth-century authors respond to the works of Geoffrey Chaucer. To broach this issue, we shall first focus on some of the Chaucer’s shorter works, especially his dream visions (Parliament of Fowls, House of Fame), before we shall read dream visions by late medieval writers, like John Lydgate (Temple of Glass), Gavin Douglas (Palace of Honour), Stephen Hawes (Pastime of Pleasure), and John Skelton (Bowge of Court), in order to see how they reshape the Chaucerian dream visions in view of their own poetic concerns.
