SoSe 16: Varieties of Peace: Korea and Europe in comparison

How peace in East Asia is different from European peace? This seminar will provide comparative historical perspective on peace building process since 1945 in East Asia and in Europe. Topics of each session will include nature and agendas of peace treaty, ways to normalize diplomatic relationship, establishment of regional, supra-national institutions, patterns of economic trade and exchanges, intra-governmental coordination of social policies. More specifically, division of Germany and Korea due to the Cold War, post-war treatments in Europe and East Asia, Ostpolitik of Germany and Nordpolitik of Korea, Unification of Germany and non-unification of Korea, EU and international relations in East Asia will be compared. Current security and socio-economic crisis, such as monetary, refugee crisis will be also examined. All in all, this seminar aims to deepen knowledge on the societal process of peace building, social capacity to create it, and role of institutions. Schließen
