SoSe 16: Internet Democracy – Media, Campaigns and Institutions

Barbara Pfetsch

Kommentar

In the seminar the students review the studies which look at the political functions and the effects of online communication on political agenda setting and on the behavior of political actors and audiences. The larger theme is how political communication and the public sphere have changed and are changing through mobilization and political participation in the internet. Questions which will be discussed refer to the mechanisms and characteristics of political content in the Internet, the use of new media such as blogs and social networks for mobilization and how old and new media interact in political communication and change processes of agenda setting and democracy. The students look at theoretical approaches and empirical studies from the social movement and communication research literature and discuss findings from recent studies. Schließen
