SoSe 17: Masculinities and Migration
Jörg-Christian Lanca
Kommentar
The seminar’s trajectory is to explore how masculinities are rendered, negotiated and constructed in the context of migration – both, by and amongst migrated subjects and in the hegemonic discourse of a majority population. The formations of (imagined) masculinities range from racist colonial clichés to migrants’ strategies of self-empowerment, from archetypical, martial and aggressive hypermasculinity to new, multi-layered and sometimes transgressive gender roles. We will aim for an intersectional understanding of male migration and place-making. Transcultural (re-)figurations of masculinity and the affective and emotional aspects of their construction will be of special interest Schließen
