Comments
This course focuses on the competence of translating, both from and into Arabic. We look at different types of 'text' - prose, poetry, newspaper texts, academic texts, etc. - and discuss not only linguistically appropriate rendering and alternative wording, but also general questions of translation, such as the extent to which it is legitimate or even necessary to adapt the translation to the target audience. The students are free to make their own suggestions for texts, which are then translated individually and finally discussed in joint online sessions. We also want to look at methods such as 'back-translation'. close
