SoSe 21: European Climate Policy and Politics

This course aims to provide students with an introduction into European environmental and climate politics and policy. We will discuss theories of European integration and the way they explain the emergence of environmental and climate policy. Attention will be given to the institutional set up of the European Union and the actor constellations involved in policy-making. The course will refer to the environmental policy cycle exploring the influence of different actor groups on the initiation, agenda setting, decision-making and implementation of European policy. We will focus on regulatory areas related to the environment, climate change and energy policy, yet also discuss EU responses to migration and asylum seeking and the handling of the Corona crisis.
