Kommentar
Journals with titles such as ‘Environmental Policy and Governance’, or ‘Climate Policy’ are evidence of the existence of a field of political science specializing in environmental problems: Comparative Environmental Politics. In this introductory class, we will discuss what Comparative Environmental Politics is and identify topics and units of research. Comparative Politics, among other political science sub-disciplines, provides a major contribution to the research of problems and governance associated with environmental collective action. If and how do scholars in the field apply theories and methods from the long-established Comparative Politics? What do they compare? After some introductory sessions, we will delve into various types of literature and answer the question of what comparative research can tell us about the role that state, non-state actors, the international context, political systems, and new forms of governance play in environmental and climate protection.
